Health and Safety Policy 

The aim of CORLETTSsafety policy is not to try to create a totally risk-free environment but to strive to create and environment in which risk is properly assessed and managed; where awareness of the importance of Health & Safety is high and where there will be potential a reduction in accidents and work-related ill-health occurrences.

Our policy is to prevent accidents and work-related ill-health occurring to our staff and members of the public that might be affected, by adequately controlling the Health & Safety risks that arise from our activities.

CORLETTS recognises its responsibilities under The Health & Safety at Work Act and attaches the greatest importance to this area, considering this to be a management responsibility ranking equally with other management functions within the organisation.

It is the policy of CORLETTS to take all reasonably practicable precautions for the prevention of accidents and dangerous occurrences and for the creation of working conditions that safeguard all staff, contractors and other visitors to the organisation. To this end CORLETTS will allocate the necessary resources and enlist the active support of staff, upon whom duties are also imposed under the Health & Safety at Work Act.

 

CORLETTS regards the standards set by the relevant statutory provisions as the minimum that must be achieved and will endeavour to improve upon these standards where reasonable practicable.

 

In particular to:

 

·        Provide and promote safe and healthy working conditions for all staff, and to ensure that the safety and health of persons other than staff and not adversely affected by our activities

 

·        Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory provisions

 

·        Provide and maintain safe equipment and plant

 

·        Ensure hazardous substances are used safely

 

·        Provide adequate information, training, instruction and supervision

 

·        Ensure staff and contractors are competent to undertake their work safely

 

·        Consult with staff, and others as appropriate, on Health and Safety matters

 

·        Provide a framework within which our safety performance can be monitored

 

·        Develop safety awareness and responsible attitudes at all levels

 

This policy and the organisation, arrangements and safety rules that form part of the safety programme will be reviewed regularly and modified and updated as necessary. All those concerned will be advised of any changes. 

DUTIES 

CORLETTS recognises its duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent legislation. To meet these responsibilities it will strive to promote a safety culture throughout the organisation, provide and maintain safe premises, ensure that safe use of substances, provide and maintain vehicles, plant and machinery fit for purpose and give adequate training with the objective of avoiding injuries and minimising risk to:

1.           All staff whilst at work on CORLETTS’ premises                     

 

2.           All staff whilst at work away from CORLETTS premises       

 

3.           Visitors or contractors to CORLETTS premises                     

 

4.             Anyone else who may be affected by CORLETTS activities

 

 

STAFF AND MANAGERS RESPONSIBILITIES 

CORLETTS expects the involvement of all staff in Health and Safety matters. All managers and individuals will have a responsibility for their own safety and for the safety of those who work with them.

 

METHODOLOGIES

 

1.           Risk assessments and effective risk management will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of legislation using the procedures laid out in CORLETTS Health & Safety manual.

 

2.           Based on risk assessments and risk management, appropriate safety procedures will be developed.
